The main street of Merriwa is the main precinct for the festival but there is just as much going on at the Merriwa Showground during the day and after 3pm, when the festival “pulls up stumps” in the main street.
It’s only a three minute walk to the Merriwa Showground. Take a moment and head down during the day and watch the Bush Sheep Dog Trials (these are working dogs and cockies straight out of the paddock). Stroll the Vintage Car Display and enjoy some of the wonderful food prepared by the ladies from the committee of the historic Bunnan Hall (these ladies fundraise to keep their hall in good repair).
After 3pm there are more festivities. Food stalls, kid’s entertainment, fireworks, live music, whip cracking and more.
At 4pm Fairy La La Land will perform their last kid’s show.
At 4.30pm Kyda Trio play live, featuring the fantastic sounds of Dario Portolan, Kylie Spelde and John-Glen Dwyer.
At 5pm the whip cracking demonstration starts with one of our locals. This is followed by the whip cracking competition (we hope you’ve you been practising).
At 6pm bring the kids for the fantastic lolly scramble. Make sure you feed the kids before 6pm, otherwise they will fill up on lollies, won’t eat their dinner, and you’re the one who will have to take them home and put them to bed (good luck).
At 6.30pm things wind down as the fireworks wind up. You’ll love this fantastic display by Kaboom Fireworks.
